FILMMAKER SPOTLIGHT: MOLLY LIKOVICH

What got you into filmmaking?

“I've always loved storytelling and movies. There's a certain magic to it all. I taught myself how to edit videos when I was 15, then went on to manage my high school TV studio. When I graduated high school it was my older sister who came to me and said she thought I should get into writing films. So I wrote 'Matches' and I've made numerous films since then. So I really have my sister to thank.”

What is your main source inspiration i.e. director, film, actor etc?

“I draw inspiration from four different places. Number 1: Director David O'Russell, who is best know for his direction over 'The Fighter,' 'Silver Linings Playbook,' and most recently, Oscar Nominated 'American Hustle.' I just think the man is a genius. He has a fresh eye, and a unique style. I could watch and study his films for days. I also draw a lot of my writing style from 'Doctor Who' primarily the reboot episodes that began in 2005-2014. I think the writers on that show are brilliant, it'd be a dream come true to get to write for that show one day. I also acting wise look to upcoming star Shaliene Woodley a lot recently, because I really like the subtle fierceness she embodies, especially in her films 'Divergent' and 'The Descendants.' I like my actors to strive for her type of style, not copy it, but take inspiration from it. And lastly, I draw inspiration from my older sister Katy, because without her giving me the push I never would've gotten into film making in the first place.”

Do you have any current projects?

“Yes! I'm currently working on a full-length documentary all about books! I even got to go to NYC to inverview NY Times Bestselling author Victoria Schwab, as well as local author Andrew Heller. Both of them will be in the film. It will be released on YouTube sometime in June.”

Where do you see yourself in the future in regards to filmmaking?

“Winning an Oscar. Don't care how long it takes, or how old I am. I have hundreds of ideas in my head just waiting to happen.”
